Notes: I found what was unmistakably a Gyromitra growing from rotten wood(!) in Zone 53(!!) in September(!!!). According to Lincoff, though, G. infula fruits in autumn in the Northeast and in rotting wood. The others in Lincoff are all terrestrial and spring mushrooms.
Zone 53 is mixed, mostly deciduous woods dominated by birch and maple.
