Observation 54740: Suillus pungens Thiers & A.H. Sm.
When: 2010-10-02
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Cap 10.5cm across, viscous when wet 2 specimens very wet/viscous, one dried out. Color was mottled/mix of brown, reddish, orangish. Pores pretty clear yellow but got darker yellow by the next day – they do not stain blue. Stalk is white w/ brown glandular dots only 2.5cm tall and 2cm wide. Stalk stains yellow. Spore print is dull brown.

Glandular dots lead me to Suillus (MD page 492, pretty straight forward to #30 → 35 → 36 → 37 → S. pungens. I considered S. granulatus but the 3 I found had olive-gray tons which per MD’s comments distinguishes pungens from granulatus.
