I see what you’re saying, but I’d wager that you’d think differently if you had this mushroom to inspect first hand.

Are very subjective and are affected by the power of suggestion. They help but don’t split hairs using them. Think about mushrooms that smell of anise or licorice. Agaricus arvenis, Clitocybe odora, and some Pleurotus species all have different odors but all probably have a similar chemical content resulting in the comparison to anise. And then there are folks who find Gymnopilus species like G. luteus and G. spectabilis to smell like anise too. Most folks report almond extract, maraschino cherries or benzaldehayde (whatever that snells like). Throw in bacterial decomposition and voila a peachy odor. But stale beer??! Maybe I do not know that odor as my beers seldom get stale…

G.luteus smells sweet too. Kind of like stale beer. This one though is different. A much sweeter and stronger smell than G. luteus.

…had to vote against. The odor is way off for those but it is similar in size and appearance.

Haha! Peaches came to mind, but not sure that description hits the nail on the head. Just a sickening sweet odor they have.

letting peaches rot should be a cardinal sin.
