It was a draft, but has been withdrawn. It will be reworked are submitted again in smaller sections.

I prefer provisional names for a case like this…

I’m not sure what you mean by a “true provinical name”, but if you are referring to provisional names, we certainly have used them in the past. I have sweated about Amanita amerimuscaria since I believe Rod either has or is close to submitting the manuscript on this. However, I note that on his Amanitaceae.org website he’s still describing it as a provisional name. Do you have any idea when this publication is going to happen? If it’s still a draft, then I’d be happy to switch it to Morchella “importuna”.

Wouldn’t it be the same….

as the situation with Amanita amerimuscaria nom. prov.? Forgive me for not knowing much about nomenclature.

I understand that the name M. importuna is not a true provincial name, but for our databasing purposes here wouldn’t it be OK to start using it? If not I am fine with that, but it makes more sense to get this obs. closer to a species if possible than “morchella sp.” if we can.

Should I change it to Morchella “importuna”? “Morchella sp. Taxon J”?

I am open-minded, mind you.

Thanks for the help, Darv!

It’s an unpublished name and not usable yet. Dr. Kuo claims that 15 new morel names will be used for the North American morels making up at least 19 species.
