Found on a dead upright tree. Does anyone know what this is? I thought it might be a lichen but Jason Hollinger thinks not. Would appreciat any ideas.

There is nothing in these photos that suggest to me that this is a slime mould as I can see nothing that looks like a spore bearing structure.
