Observation 56794: Lycoperdon pyriforme Schaeff.

No herbarium specimen

Notes: The current debate is between Scleroderma areolatum and Lycoperdon pyriforme. I’m going to return to this mass of puffballs and open some up to determine their interior color. I will add this information with photos revealing the look of their interior. Any help is appreciated.
