Not sure on this one.
It was growing near an old redwood stump, and there were other redwoods in the near vicinity as well as some hardwoods (elm I believe, but not sure).
I had thought Caulorhiza from the shape, colour and location, but the gills looked decidedly brown to black.
I didn’t pull it up to see if it was a rooting stem because it was the only one and it looked too cool to pull.
