Observation 56995: Hydnellum peckii Banker

No herbarium specimen

Notes: I rarely find this beautiful fragrant fungus, but was lucky enough to find several specimens today. Took only pictures and left them for posterity.

Recognized by sight: Has been lumped back with H. peckii by some authors, very similar but has a sweet odor.

Recognized by sight: Seems to match obs. 52299, as noted by myxomop. Sweet aroma, rather distinctive purplish central scales, which become white-tipped closer to cap edge. Droplets of red liquid on the edge of the cap only, but depressed areas between scales may have dark red residue. This area did have several inches of rainfall 2 days prior to this observation.
