The keys lead me to cucumis as well as mycena, just can’t let go on how slippery the stem was. Mycena descriptions I have read categorize sometimes by the cucumber smell and the slippery stem.

I cannot imagine what else it would be

The description of Macrocystidia cucumis includes a dry stem (even described as velvety) , not a slippery one.
