Observation 57612: Agaricus L.
When: 2010-10-30
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing right next to where this A. Augustus was found: http://mushroomobserver.org/56905?q=2YMR
But appears to possibly have a universal veil.

This is a park/playground and this “egg” had been kicked over by someone sometime earlier. There was no bruising, and no other mushrooms in the area.

The “egg” was SOLID to the point of being nearly rock hard. Cutting into it felt similar to cutting a store bought A. bisporus, only more solid.

Cutting into it caused no bruising or staining and it smelled mushroomy.

The shape looks like Amanita ocreata, but the cross section shows some yellow stains and the gills are not pure white.

Perhaps an Amanita egg?
