They were growing in

a huge pile of yard clippings, garden waste, and other stuff the city picked up in the yard waste containers and dumped. PNW, mid October. I found two other species of Leucocoprinus there as well, all growing side by side.

the very whiteness, the loose floccules – these point to Leucocoprinus cretaceus.
What kind of habitat were these growing in?
(it is always useful to add habitat information)
