Observation 58378: Agaricus L.
When: 2010-11-09
No herbarium specimen
0 Sequences

Found growing underneath ornamental shrub adjacent to lawn in front of King’s College, Main Street, Wilkes – Barre. When I trimmed the base of the stipe to remove dirt, the context stained prominently, and rather quickly, reddish orange. Cut it again at home and got the staining as seen in photos, but it was not as prominent.

Tried to create name “Agaricus species section Bitorques” as seen in Arora. I would call this Agaricus bitorquis, except the red staining does not appear in any descriptions of this species. Tried to name it “Agaricus species” but that was also rejected. “Agaricus L.” was the closest thing offered,

Cap surface and stipe context negative in KOH.
