Daldinia concentrica (Bolton: Fr.) Ces. & De Not. can be separated from D. eschscholzii (Ehrenb.: Fr.) Rehm mainly in the following 3 characters:
stromatal surface scales (present vs. absent)
ascospore length range (13-17 µm vs. 10-14 µm)
ascospore width range (6-7.5 µm vs. 5-6.5 µm)
