While on my morning walk (in a park where picking is illegal),I stopped to admire one of these that I’d seen a few days ago, wishing that I could have one to draw at home. Farther along my walk, I traveled along an animal track and, yikes, look what I found! Is that cosmic or what?!

Recognized by sight: Can look macroscopically identical to C. vinicolor and C. rutilus (which doesn’t appear to occur in the US).

Recognized by sight: Red-brown to orange to ocher color, growing with pine, decurrent gills. Microscopy needed to assign to species.
