both of these “varieties” you’re talking about here in NY.
The east coast and west coast collections of C. atramentaria look different. The east coast material has a smaller cap which could almost be mistaken for C. micaceus, while the collections from the west coast have more elongated caps that look kind of like C. comatus without the scales.
