Observation 59598: Cladonia petrophila R.C. Harris

When: 2010-11-07

Collection location: Dabney Creek, Madison Co., Arkansas, USA [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

Specimen available

on soil banks in deep forest

This looks just like Cladonia apodocarpa, except the squamules are smaller and they were growing in shady places. I’ve never seen C. petrophila before, but according to the description, this could well be it.
