Observation 61150: Cortinarius purpurascens group

Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: These were growing under Live Oak and had slimy caps up to 12.0 Cm across.
The spores were ~ 7.1-8.0 X 4.4-5.3 microns and fairly rough.
KOH on the cap turned reddish brown after a few minutes. Little effect on the other surfaces.

Ron, very good observation – you did notice the more ornamented spores – this is one of the two C. purpurascens genotypes that we have in California. Note the purpurascing gills on the first photo.
