A very late-season Russula, found in mixed Pinus sylvestris, Betula pendula, Populus tremula forest. Spore print beige-cream, odor and taste mild, no bruising reactions.

in Ontario, under Pinus banksiana, Betula papyrifera, Populus tremuloides. Late in the season, distinctly yellowish gills, cap pigment often seems to flake off like paint.
