I found something similar last winter, growing from the bark of an oak.

I also saw something similar on the bark of a living yellow poplar last summer, but i didn’t get any pictures of it.

wish you had saved it.

it reminds me vaguely of one of the Micromphale, since they also are tiny, grow on living bark, have a coating to their caps and probably fold up like an umbrella when young.
