Observation 61468: Gymnopilus sapineus (Fr.) Murrill
When: 2010-12-29
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This mushroom was sited on my property growing in the pathway that is lined with playground bark. This is the 2nd year that they are growing in my yard. Since they are quite prolific I am tempted to eat them but thought I should check first to make sure they are edible.

I have provided two photos, an overhead photo showing the mushrooms < 4 inches in diameter with somewhat wavy-tops. THay are a light burnt orange in color with lighter coloration on the surface.

Could someone please help me ID this mushroom?
