As they age, they turn black; all of it, cap, gills and stalk. Not a bruising reaction and not an infection. Check out some of the other posts here on MO.

I’ve never seen the gills turn dark like that

What caused it? Is that similar to the bruising of the flesh or is there some “infection” going on there?
