I have wanted to share this photo for quite a while. It is the first and only parasitic mushroom I’ve seen.

A parasitic mushroom would have been much cooler.

I think that this is a developmental abnormality – I think the lower muashrooms are Clitocybe nuda – a species which will often will produce a small fruitbody that ‘piggybacks’ on the larger ones and which often rots quickly.

The colors seem a little odd on the little mushroom, but that’s my guess for your photo.
