Observation 61963: Ganoderma resinaceum group
When: 2011-01-09
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing on downed maple that is still partially alive (short green stems along trunk). There are many more and bigger shelves growing on the stump. None seem to have much of a stem – pure brackets. They are well past their prime and full of worm holes, dried out and corky. Still, it is the first time I have found an unambiguous example of this species. They appeared bright brick red from a distance in winter sunlight. Photographed same group April (see the first and last 3 photos of this observation). They are still as rotten and dead as before, but the upper surface is now bright red and is getting the shine of varnish.
