Observation 62845: Dendrocollybia racemosa (Pers.) R.H. Petersen & Redhead

When: 2011-01-18

Collection location: Pepperwood Preserve, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Erin Page Blanchard (CureCat)

Specimen available

A box of rotting Lactarius alnicola was brought into the SOMA meeting and I noticed these fungal balls that seem to like growing on the rotten gills and stipe of this mushroom. The current thought is that these may be the sclerotia of Dendrocollybia racemosa.

saw these out at Brionnes last weekend, too. But how do we PROVE that they are Dendrocollybia sclerotia, w/out DNA work? Too late for those sclerotia at Huckleberry to grow…the ground has already dried up.
