Velvety comes from the early stage of parasitic infection. Soon these will be covered in spores of what we think is Hypomyces cervinigenus — who knows if that’s even a real name on our this Helvella.

It is at this point only an abstract, not yet published , and Else herself warns about using these names now as they could change after a more extensive peer review.
