Observation 63016: Russula xerampelina (Schaeff.) Fr.

When: 2007-08-11

Collection location: Dry Creek Trail, Lake Cushman, Washington, USA [Click for map]

Who: Drew Henderson (Hendre17)

No specimen available

Yellow gills, fishy odor and pinkish stalk are indicators. I have collected specimens of R. xerampelina(in same patch) that have cap color variation from purple to green that are the same species and microscopically identical. Remember the first three indicators-these can be really tasty.

August-September is best time to find these at lake Cushman.
