This has more of a Pyxine look to me. See the yellow-orangish splotch toward to upper right of the fist image? I’d bet that’s indicative of a mustard-yellow medulla. From your specimens, I’d say that this is a very common and variable species in Alabama, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
