Observation 63993: Amanita vernicoccora Bojantchev & R.M. Davis
When: 2011-02-28
Who: Byrain
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found growing in grass at the drip line of an oak tree, the stem broke at some point while trying to push its way through the grass. The lower section of the stem below the break point was rotting and smelled very fishy. There was another rotting and gooey specimen next to it which had a much clearer skirt-like annulus and also smelled strongly fishy.

The pictures were taken with an old camera several hours after being found since my regular camera stopped working in the field.
