I was in New Mexico a couple of years ago, and found Flammulina rather common. But I only found it on aspen there, I called it all F. populicola. Don’t know if that helps at all, maybe just some random info for ya.

have been Populus, but it was on a cut stump in an area where I don’t know the trees…
The bark around the base was thickly ridged, pale gray, and low-density.
