Hi Adolf.

Yes, it is as you say, Coprinus silvaticus Today has not been recombined to Coprinellus genre. But although we call Coprinus silvaticus, mentally we must place it in the current Coprinellus genre. Regarding the type species of this genus, there is enough mess of nomenclature, but I think I remember that one is based on material lectotypo Coprinellus deliquescens. Currently the authors have failed to recombine the coprinoides species because there is a proposition nomen conservandum for the group atramentaria and until the court decides not botanical nomenclature, may in the future we see again all these taxa recombined again.
What is the type species of the genus Coprinellus ?

I don’t have an access to the original literature, but I suspect that the combination Coprinellus silvaticus has never been published. Again, I only suspect that the type species of the genus Coprinellus is Coprinellus tardus (P. Karst.) P. Karst. Index Fungorum indicates that Coprinus tardus P. Karst. is a later synonym of “Coprinus silvaticus Peck” but that does not change anything on the fact that the genus Coprinellus is based on Kartsten’s Coprinus tardus, not on Peck’s Cortisnarius silvaticus. I may be wrong in my conclusions, but it looks like that the Coprinellus silvaticus combination has never been published. Until somebody bites the bullet, Coprinus silvaticus Peck is the best label for this species. Adolf
