Observation 65030: Lactarius rubidus (Hesler & A.H. Sm.) Methven

When: 2011-03-31

Collection location: Aptos, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Jeff Riedenauer (Tamsenite)

No specimen available

Notes:
Found near the ocean, mostly under pine, some under live oak in a candy cap ritch area. All stems hollow at all ages. Collected several pounds(wet) in the month of March. Feels to me like it a second flush. The reason is that they are not as fragrant and flavorfull as the numerous amounts I collected in the early part of the winter(in the same area).
