Observation 65364: Agaricomycetes Doweld
When: 2011-04-10
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Looked like a puff ball growing out of the trunk of a living tree (eucalypt). Do puff balls grow from trees? Or are they terrestrial only?

Fruiting body approx. 50mm across. I assume it isn’t a puff ball, but was something that hadn’t fully matured (a bolete perhaps?). Pale yellow surface, with flaking on the skin. No evidence of a stem when I removed loose bark around it. Eucalypt woodland; high altitude (300m+ above sea level).
