Observation 65946: Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.) P. Kumm.
When: 2011-04-22
Who: BlueCanoe
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found on a dead Alnus rubra log in a sunny, damp opening of second-growth mixed conifer-hardwood forest. Keys out to Pleurotus complex using PNW Key Council key, but I don’t know whether to call it Pleurotus ostreatus or Pleurotus pulmonarius. Trudell & Ammirati suggest that non-Populus decaying Pleurotus in the Pacific Northwest are Pleurotus pulmonarius, but they also caution that it is very hard to separate the species of Pleurotus with macroscopic characteristics.
