Observation 66455: Gymnopilus P. Karst.

Small bright yellow fungi growing between crack in bark. Removed from habitat and shown in second image. The cap was about 3cm across and the stem about 5cm and having a thick body. No aromas.

Hi Ian,

I don’t believe that stipe thickness is taxanomically significant in Gymnopilus (at least at generic level). There are some species with slender stipes and others with very robust ones (see Gymnopilus junonius as an example).



Britney (Riverdweller), I mentioned about the stem being thick. Did you take this into consideration with your ID. All of my references for Gymnopilus sp. do not mention this particular habit?
They do mention banding.
