Observation 66638: Helvella L.

Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: I have never seen these before.

Found underneath oak, large amounts spaced around the base of the oak.

I only collected one handful of the many there, they smell very good, kinda sweet.


A mature specimen, the stipe remains hidden underneath the forest debris.
A young specimen, note the yellow near the base of the stipe.
Pictures showing the color of the “cup” (is that the correct word), showing the color change from cream/tan to purple/brown and finally a deep purple/charcoal color (first picture)
