Damon, I can’t remember whether it was hard or not. I should have paid a little more attention to detail. Thank you for the species suggestions though, I will have to check into them.

Martin, Thanks! When I found it, I wasn’t sure what it was. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized that it was probably some species of Hypomyces. I wish that I would have collected it.

firm? I think its on a Russulales, possibley lactarius, but hard to say…
If so I would go with H. banningiae. Its from you area. There is a more cottony hypomyces anamorph stage in H. ochraceus but is not yet reported in the south.
