I just photographed it at the monthly PSMS meeting.

More like oddly-formed Morchella.

Based on the cap and especially the stipe. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a verpa with that kind of stipe.

Was the cap semi-attached to the stipe? Photo doesn’t show. Most Verpas I’ve picked had tubular stipes. This thing has a flared base. Ratio of cap to stipe is unusual, too.

Was the cap semi-attached to the stipe? Photo doesn’t indicate it. Most Verpas I’ve picked had curious circular thingies and a nearly circular, tubular stipe. This thing has that flared base, too. Unusual in my (admittedly limited) experience.
