Observation 67251: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray
When: 2011-05-07

Notes: These were growing above ground and because of the light brownish gills, I initially thought them to be Inocybes. However, the spore print was rusty and the gills eventually dried up rusty brown.
The caps were up to 3.9 cm across and rather fibrillose.
The spores were ~ 8.8-10.0 X 5.3-6.2 microns.
Did not see any cystidia on the gills and I didn’t check for KOH reactions.

Spores in KOH from spore print @ 1000X.
Spores in KOH + Congo Red from gill crush @ 1000X.
