Observation 67280: Sarcosoma mexicanum (Ellis & Holw.) Paden & Tylutki
When: 2011-05-12
Who: ocarolan
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing in an unfused cluster of six cups on forest needle duff (mixed hemlock/doug fir), in spring after recent snowmelt. Cups are tapered at surface but had no apparent stalk or root connection into the soil.

Smaller cups ~5cm in diameter and rolled at margin, older cups ~8 cm and almost flat. Glistening dark brown on cap, black underneath. Large cups have irregularly-shaped, radially arranged dents underneath. No apparent spore print. No orange granules visible to eye.

As the cups dry, ribbing is evident on their exterior, but not previously.
