Mid-sized Helvella

In my experience the H. compressa group are the smallest. I’ve seen H. acetabulum up to around 6cm across, so similar in size in a reasonable H. lacunosa. However, I’ve seen some monster H. lacunosa as well.

Ah, there was a lone specimen of this species at the Fungus Fair in Marin this weekend, mixed among 3 other Helvella species. Are these usually much smaller than other species? It almost got buried in the duff. I IDed it using MD, good to know i put the correct label down. Looked just like these, it was my first time seeing one in person.
