Observation 67550: Abortiporus biennis (Bull.) Singer
When: 2011-05-17
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Jelly crown-like growth is 3 days old. The Coprinellus appeared over the last 24 hours with a big rain. I expect it is all growing on wood hidden by the grass. Tan edge fading to white to pink, then furrowed into pores. Nice sequence, have you seen it before? On May 21 and 22 the Coprinellus was replaced by Psathyrella velutina, aka. Lacrymaria lacrymabunda. It must be a healthy site.

The color may be a bit deceptive. In the last two photos I have used MS Picture Manager (that comes with Office) to add contrast to the mid-range values. This has the tendency in my mind, to make the photos look like they were shot through a polaroid filter – hopefully to get it closer to the true color. But as you can see by the comparison of colors, it is a bit random in its effects and possibly easy to over do.

Great!

Thank you Walt
