Very large beautiful red belted polypores fruiting on either side of this large fallen Fir. Due to heavy winds this season there are now plenty of wonderful conks at Millersylvania State Park that are now accessible at ground level :)
This conk has many beneficial medicinal values when made into tea: Contains multiple Triterpenes, ergosterol, fungisterol, multiple lanosterol’s and has shown moderate tumor inhibition against sarcoma 180 in mice(Ito et al, 1972-1973; Ikekawa et al, 1968; Shibata et al, 1968). If harvested young enough this conk can be chopped up (crudely) and then dehydrated and plopped into a boiled tea for an hour- the result is a potent empowering elixer- very effective for chronic headaches.
