Observation 68567: Kuehneromyces vernalis (Peck) Singer & A.H. Sm.

When: 2011-06-01

Collection location: Jenkinson Lake, El Dorado Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

Specimen available

These had translucent striations on the smooth caps, which were up to 5.0 cm across. The caps were hygrophanous.
The spore print was brown and the spores were ~ 7.0-7.5 X 4.0-4.4 microns.
I suppose one could also call these K. vernalis which is supposedly a synonym in some references but not apparently in Index Fungorum. These didn’t have a ring but did have a fibrillose ring-zone and they looked very similar to the Ceska’sMO from BC.http://mushroomobserver.org/63843?q=4gn3

You should call them K. vernalis, so this obs. will be included with all the other K. vernalis from the Sierras. I believe I did a full work up on some last year, you can compare to that obs. to see.
