class Lecanoromycetes, subclass Acarosporomycetidae

Myconet shows Acarospora, Pleopsidium, and just a few other low-profile genera way off in a subclass of the Lecanoromycetes all by themselves, the Acarosporomycetidae. It’s amazing to imagine these little beauties going their own way over huge amounts of evolutionary time. And high marks to CNALH for making such helpful materials available online.

How about that!

Never would’ve guessed Acarospora. What a bizarre genus.

Beautiful little thing…

… but still no closer to putting a name to it!
