Observation 69570: Laetiporus sulphureus (Bull.) Murrill

When: 2011-06-19

Collection location: Polk Co., Wisconsin, USA [Click for map]

Who: ameryan

No specimen available

On the end of a dead log; kind of wood unknown. Firm but soft; not mushy at all. A little more pinkish than the photo shows. Smell is fresh, pleasant. I have no idea what this is and can’t seem to find anything relevant in the reference books. (Update – I now think this is Laetiporus sulphureus, having seen new growth where this is harvested, and doing more research. Will need to get a photo of the new growth to add to this.)
