Observation 69666: Amanita ocreata Peck
When: 2011-06-16
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I have no clue what this is, took a guess at a poison pie because there seems to be a number of poisonous mushrooms growing in front of Folsom City Hall. Found growing along side of parking lot, in cut lawn, under trees.

might want to invest in a mushroom book. I’d recommend “All that the Rain Promises and more” by David Arora, an excellant beginners guide geared to the West Coast, that will leave you with lots of change from your hundred, as well as lots of good descriptions and color photos of our most common western fungi.

Indeed this is a poisonous mushroom, one of the deadly amanitas. I can’t really tell the species from just your photo, but it’s worlds away from a hebeloma.
