Observation 70099: Retiboletus griseus (Frost) Manfr. Binder & Bresinsky
When: 1996-07-14
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Another old find from 1996 that I have been trying to Id for some time. Cap was about 6.5 cm across.
The spore print was a reddish brown. The spores were ~ 10.3-13.9 X 3.0-4.6 microns and somewhat oblong.
The distinctly reticulated stipe narrows the field down quite a bit. Boletus tenax was my first choice but spore color, pore attachment to stipe, and spore size seemed to eliminate it.
Xanthoconium affine var. reticulatum does seem to be a better fit.
