Observation 70452: Amanita sect. Lepidella sensu Bas

When: 2011-06-24

Collection location: Saleeby-Fischer YMCA, Rockwell, North Carolina, USA [Click for map]

Who: Matt Sherman (Shermanii)

Specimen available

Group of two, from soil in mixed woods.
Nearby trees include: Quercus coccinea, Quercus alba, Quercus sp., Carya sp., and Juniperus virginiana

7.7cm broad, convex, white with brownish center, universal veil remnants as white warts
Flesh is white and the thickest part (the center, from top of stipe to pileipellis) measures 90mm

adnate, crowded, creamy white

11.5cm long (including bulb, which is 4.5cm long), Width: Apex-1.3cm, Mid-1.7cm, Bulb-3.1cm
White, peeling is some places (this could be due to bug larvae, but I don’t know for sure)
Bulb is “lumpy”(?), soft and has a few pieces of white tissue (that are connected to bulb) that flare out (see pictures)
(sorry if the bulb description is terrible)

I didn’t write down a smell in my field notes, but I remember it being, what I call, disagreeable.
