Recognized by sight: This large Amanita was found along a path in a park in mixed hardwoods. It was DEEPLY rooted into hard packed sand, and whatever bulb may have been present was not retrievable after 2 inches or more of digging.
The cap was light brown with yellowing near the margin. It had prominent yellow scales. Gills were somewhat bruised brown/red, There was a ring still attached way near the top.
The stipe was particularly robust and stained yellow all the way up.
Again, I could not retrive anything as far as a bulb
