No herbarium specimen

Notes: This specimen is chocolate brown with black edges, has twin heads or openings, abbout 17cm tall, has the odor of Helvella lacunosa (not pleasant)
and seems to be attached to a chip of rotting Doug. fir.

This is a flash photo of the specimen cross sectioned vertically. It’s not that great of a photo, but the half on the right is inverted with the stipe at the top.

Recognized by sight: I agree with Darvin’s comment. The color and stature looks right, but more detail would be needed to be completely confident.

Without a photo of the stipe and a half section cut it’s hard to tell what this is, but it looks like it might be Gyromitra infula.
